The “bellows” in the title of our movie is a reference to “fueye”, the nickname that the Argentinians coined for the bandoneon. Throughout the film, it appears that words can hardly describe the true soul of the bandoneon: its sound is like a breath that gives life, and inspires. As we meet musicians, teachers, historians, and instrument makers, it becomes clear that the perception of the bandoneon as a living creature is common among all.
Our documentary film is a journey through the present, past, and future of the bandoneon. Much like a road movie, the documentary takes us on a journey through Europe. For whoever thinks only of Argentina when hearing a bandoneon, is in for a surprise. We tell a universal story of passion – with captivating images, intimate stories, and of course, the unique sounds of the instrument.
